Kingsport ? Hubert Ray Byrd, 59, passed away today, Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at his home, after losing a courageous battle with cancer, with his family by his side.
Mr. Byrd was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and retired from Quebecor with 23 years of service. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He was the son of the late Elbert Lee Byrd and Manie Ethel McNutt Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Homer, Robert, Richard and Clifford, and twin sisters, Mary Elizabeth and Evelyn Lois Byrd.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, La Wanda; a daughter Vicky Stacy and husband Ronny; a son Don Byrd and wife Theresa; a special granddaughter Kelli Byrd, all of Kingsport. He is also survived by two brothers, Eugene Byrd and wife JoAnn of Kingsport, Orville Byrd and wife Pat of Rutledge, TN; two sisters, Patricia Forbis and husband James of Rogersville, TN, Linda Ramsey and husband Danny of Waverly, TN; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and numerous friends.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport or any time at the home of Mr. Byrd.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral with Paul Clevinger officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 16 at the Holston View Cemetery. It is requested that family and friends wishing to attend those services, meet at the cemetery by 10:55 a.m.
