Hugh Evan Good

Hugh Evan Good, 95, of Kingsport, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2008, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Hillside.

Born February 10, 1912 in Leelanau, Michigan, he came to Kingsport as a teenager with his family in 1926. He attended and graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1929. Evan served in World War II in the Army Air Corp in radio communications. He received the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, and Victory Medal for action in the Northern Apennines, PO Valley area of Italy in 1944.

He worked in the banking business for 40 years beginning at the age of 17 and retired from the First National Bank of Sullivan County. Following retirement, he was employed at Franklin Printing Company for 25 years, retiring again at the age of 89.

Evan was active in the Kingsport Optimist Club, Junior Achievement, Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the American Legion. He was an avid bowler and a member of the American Bowling Congress. He had been a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church since 1931.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Catherine Parker Good; his parents, Clara and William Good; two brothers, Robert Good and Donald K. Good; sister, Anna Mary Good Cochran; and an infant great-grandchild, Jordan Christine Fritz.

Survivors include his four daughters, Patricia Dingus and husband Donald, Tina Snyder and husband Rick, all of Kingsport, Marilyn Edgar and husband Kevin, Blacksburg, VA, and Janice Sutkowski and husband Kaz, Fredericksburg, VA; seven grandchildren, Don Fritz, Jr., Doug Fritz, Emma Edgar, Anjie Perry, Aaron Fisher, Katelyn Sutkowski, and Stosh Sutkowski; and seven great-grandchildren, Farrah, Hannah, Kamra, Jessica, Noah, Savannah, and Sullivan.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 Wednesday evening at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday with Pastor Steve Counts officiating.

Interment will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

The family acknowledges the staff at SunBridge Hillside and Adventa Hospice for their compassionate care during his illness.
