Hugh Thompson passed away peacefully at his home in Kingsport on June 5. He was 75.
Raised in Walterboro, SC, he graduated from Wofford College and University of South Carolina. He served in the army in Korea and worked as an accountant in Atlanta until 1966 when he left to enter the ministry. He attended graduate seminary at Emmanuel School of Religion in Johnson City and was a faithful minister of the gospel for 40 years. He served as senior minister of Oakwood Forest Christian Church from 1968 - 1988, pastored a church in Leicester, England 5 years and at Union Church of Christ in Jonesborough. His last ministry was as senior minister and later as an associate minister at Colonial Heights Christian Church. He was active in the Sonrise Emmaus Community.
He is survived by his wife Diann and daughter Lane Rhoades of Kingsport and his son Mark Thompson of Florence, SC.
The family will receive friends from 4-6pm Sunday June 8, 2008 at Colonial Heights Christian Church. A memorial service will follow at 6pm with Stan Leonard, minister and Wes McElravy, minister officiating.
