Ida Barger Bishop Melton, 90, of Kingsport went to be with her Lord on Friday, September 18th after a long battle with a variety of illnesses. She had been a resident for several years at Brookhaven Manor and was a 38 year retiree of Eastman Kodak, Yarn Division.
Ida was a loving person who took great pleasure in having her family and friends over for good food and conversation. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the staff and residents of Brookhaven Manor for their care, kindness and friendship over the last five years. The many efforts of Otis Williams have been a blessing. In addition, the support of the congregation of Oakwood Forest Christian Church and our many friends, too numerous to name, is also appreciated.
She was predeceased by her husband, Marion Melton; her parents, Flora Roller Barger and Bob Barger; her sister, Mary Barger Jones; her son, Conley "Denny" Bishop; and her grandson, James Robinson Jr. She was also predeceased by several nieces, nephews and in-laws.
She is survived by her daughter, Georgia Quillen, Kingsport; her granddaughter, Robin Bishop Hall, Kingsport; her grandsons, Gene Bishop, Tim Bishop, both of Kingsport, Mark Cochran, Charlotte, NC; and her daughter-in-law, Melba Bishop, Kingsport. In addition, she is survived by her half sisters, Aileen, Pauline and Dolly Barger in addition to several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home in Kingsport on Monday, September 21st from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Marlin Jaynes and Larry Munsey officiating.
