Ira C. "Tide" Fields, 88, of the Beech Creek Community in Rogersville, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born in Hawkins County, TN on January 21, 1925, a son of the late John and Clarice Fields, he had resided in this area his entire life.
Tide was a lifelong farmer and was a member of Mt. Carmel Free Will Baptist Church.
He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, dad, papaw, brother and friend.
Tide loved to fish, was an avid gardener where he excelled in growing 18 blue ribbons pumpkins at various Fairs and State Fairs, and loved to eat and visit with his family.
Mr. Fields was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post #21 in Rogersville, TN.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford "Tip" Fields, Paul Fields, Alexander Fields, Ralph Fields and Cleo "Teed" Fields; and granddaughter, Rebecca "Becky" Davenport.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marie Head Fields; five children, Eugene Fields of Rogersville, Clifford Fields and wife, Sharon of Kingsport, Kathy Fields of Kingsport, Dennis Fields and wife, Cindy of Fall Branch and Michael Fields and wife, Tami of Fall Branch; six grandchildren, Tonya Fields, Shirley Moody and husband, Brian, Glenda Kirk and husband, Adam, John Fields and wife, Holly, Tina Hill and Josh Fields; sixteen great-grandchildren, Cheyene, Alissa, Chasity, Gracie, Levi, Mykael, Kelton, Nathan, Jay, Roy, Trent, Dolan, Rachel, Ross, Andrew and Emily; brother, Albert David "Jack" Fields of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Beatrice "Bea" McLain of Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 19th from 6-8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel with Dr. Bobby L. Bernard officiating. Special music will be provided by Bill McLain and Chip McLain.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20th at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Rites will be accorded by The American Legion, Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m on Wednesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
