Iva Jean Christian Amyx, 75, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Indian Path Medical Center.
She as born in Snowflake, VA but had lived in the Tri-Cities area most of her life. Iva retired from Palace Vending after 27 years of service. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Iva loved her dogs dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ollie Mae Christian; daughter, Regina Hawkins; grandson, Brent Byington; four sisters, Almalee Christian, Arleda Harmon, Wanda Taylor, her twin Eva Jean Adams; four brothers, McKenley Christian, Henry Christian, Ralph Christian and Eric Christian.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ray H. Amyx; two daughters, Debbie Byington, Sharon Jones and husband, T.J.; two sons, Ray H. Amyx, Jr., Kenneth Amyx and wife, Debbie; eleven grandchildren: Kevin Jones, Crystal Byington, Vicky Hawkins, Adam Hawkins, Michael Amyx, Ben Amyx, Brandy Amyx, Christian Amyx, Mercedes Amyx, Zachary Amyx, Cody Younce; several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Day, Shirley Mowdy and husband, Cecil, Jo Ella Davis and husband, Gary; two brothers, Ronald Christian and wife, Janis, Johnny Christian and wife, Joyce; special sisters, Elsie, Joyce, Margaret, Louise, Junelle, Peggy, Brenda; special brother, Ralph; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The service will begin at 7 pm with Pastor David Salley officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Thursday at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
