Iva Townsend, 76, Fall Branch, TN, slipped into Heaven Thursday evening at her home after a brief illness. She was born in Washington County and had lived in Fall Branch her entire life. Iva had been an employee of Dobyns Taylor and Cantor Appliance. She retired to care of her husband Joe until his death in January 2018. She was a graduate of Fall Branch High School, class of '60. Iva was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church where she was in the choir, Sunday School Class and Senior Group.
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; parents, Charlie and Ida Barnes; three brothers, Beryl, Billy, and Kay Barnes; three sisters, Juanita Arnold, Norma Hite Dockery, and Linda Miller; and a great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Willis and husband, Bud of Fall Branch; two granddaughters, Amanda Adkins and husband, Daniel, and Amber Jeffers and husband, James, and baby Jeffers expected in September; one brother, Dale Barnes and wife, Carol; special nieces, Judy Morelock and Yvonne Pilkenton and several other nieces and nephews; and special neighbor, Shirley Harless.
Family requests due to allergies donations be given to Sullivan Baptist Church Building Fund, 4152 Maplewood Street, Kingsport, TN 37660.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at Sullivan Baptist Church. The service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Vic Wallace and Rev. Dennis Flaugher officiating.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Logan's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Robert York officiating.
