J. C. Barnes, 90, of 4577 Highway 126, Blountville, TN died Friday afternoon, September 21, 2007 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Bradley County, TN, he had resided most of his life in Blountville. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, having served during World War II and saw action in the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres. Mr. Barnes retired from Eastman Kodak following 42 years of service and continued his enjoyment of farming.
He was a lifelong member of Adams Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and friend to many throughout his life.
His wife, Lucille Barnes; parents, J. N. and Marjorie Barnes; and two brothers, Lake Barnes and Nat Barnes preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughter, Mary Barnes Staub and husband, Frederick A. of Lexington, NC and Lavina Barnes Slagle and husband, James C. Slagle, Jr. of Cornelius, NC; two sons, Jessee C. ?Jack? Barnes, Jr. and wife, Janie of Kingsport, and Stephen L. Barnes and wife, Wanda of Fort Mill, SC; eight grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Adams Chapel United Methodist Church. Services will follow at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church with Rev. Millard J. Johnson and Rev. Billy Byrd officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Adams Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post #3/265. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Monday.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Moore, Tony Marion, Jeff Holt, Matthew Carpenter and his grandsons, Jason Slagle, Frederick Staub, and Joshua Barnes.
