J. P. Mowell

J. P. Mowell, 78, Kingsport, was called home at 6:15 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2010, following an extended illness. J. P. was born in Sullivan County, where he had resided his entire life. He was a retired employee of Holston Defense. He later worked at several area grocery stores. He attended Temple Baptist Church.

J. P. was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Bernie Mowell, a son, Nolan Mowell, and four sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Eaton Mowell, of the home; daughter, Ms. Rhonda Mowell and fiancé, Scott Egan, Kingsport; son, Phillip Mowell, Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman E. Mowell and wife, Mary Jean, of Kingsport; and granddog, Lexi, who he loved very much.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8:00, with Pastor Brian Schuler officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Loveless Baptist Church Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
