Jack Lee Campbell, 80, passed away on Saturday morning, April 25, 2020 in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. He attended Kingsport City Schools and worked in construction. Jack also served his country, enlisting in the Army and was honorably discharged. He attended church at Kingsport First Assembly of God and Pleasant View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Berta Campbell; brothers, Samuel Campbell, Jr., Kenneth Campbell, and Kamaill Campbell; and sister, Leta Marshall.
He is survived by two sisters, Patricia Galloway (Carl), and Gaynell Smith (Wayne), both of Kingsport, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Jacklyn Campbell of Mobile, Alabama, along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family and special friend, Tom Taylor.
Jack was well-known in Kingsport, most often seen walking along Stone Drive or Eastman Road until becoming a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Home (now Orchard View) seven years ago this month. Many Kingsport residents thought Jack had already passed since they no longer saw him roaming our streets, but his fateful day didn’t actually come until Saturday. Until then, Jack thrived in his new home, lovingly cared for by the staff of Brookhaven.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff, especially “my best friend” Daisy who held a special place in Jack’s heart.
Thank you to all Kingsport residents who may have played a part in Jack’s life; whether you sheltered him, gave him a ride, fed him, gave him clothes or money, or simply prayed for him, we his family, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Due to state restrictions of COVID-19, a private service will be held on Monday, April 27, 2020, with nephew, Pastor Tony Marshall, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Gideons International in Jack’s name. Jack will be laid to rest at Mountain Home VA Cemetery.
