Jack Wesley Mayo

Jack Wesley Mayo, 88, died Thursday, November 24th, 2011 at Remington House in Kingsport. Born in Pineville, KY, Jack Mayo moved to Kingsport in 1933. After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he lettered in baseball, he served in the Army Air Force as a P51 Mustang pilot during World War II. Following the war, he returned to Virginia Polytechic Institute and State University, earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering and began a 35-year career at Tennessee Eastman Company. In his spare time and continuing after his retirement in 1986, Jack took great pride in helping to build homes with the Habitat for Humanity Organization.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy C. Mayo; sister, Helen Lee Hall; granddaughter, Beth Walker and great-grandson, Emmett Kent Walker.

Jack is survived by his significant other, Reba Shelby; two daughters, Donna M. Walker and husband, Kent., Jr., of Kingsport and Christine M. Lawson and husband, Jim of Knoxville, TN; three grandchildren, Kent Walker III and wife, Amy, Katie Lawson and Ben Lawson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating. Burial services will be at East Lawn Memorial Park at a later date.

The family of Jack Mayo would like to thank the staff at Remington House for their many years of devoted care, support and friendship to Jack.
