Jackie R. Taylor, 59, Kingsport, TN, formerly of Duffield, VA, passed away Wednesday August 25, 2010 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after an extended illness.

He was born in Sullivan County, TN on November 16, 1950 to the late Clyde Delaney Taylor and the late Myrtle Lee Hensley Taylor. He grew up in Hiltons, VA, but resided in the Clinchport and Duffield areas of Scott County, VA, most of his adult life.

Mr. Taylor was of the Baptist Faith. He was a 1971 graduate of Gate City High School and a former member of Scott County Life Saving Crew and Duffield Fire & Rescue. He loved to hunt, ride four wheelers, watch NASCAR and his favorite shows on television, and spend time with his grandkids.

He retired from the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation following thirty years of service. He was owner of Daniel Boone Wrecker Service in Duffield, VA for five years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, his second father, Roy Walker, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Surviving are one son, Jonathan Taylor and wife Melissa, Jonesborough, TN; three grandchildren, Christopher, Nathaniel, and Summer Taylor of Jonesborough, TN; sister, Margie Huffman and husband Norman, of the home; one niece, Tema Browning and husband Chuck; one nephew, Ammon Huffman and wife Tabitha; one very special great-niece, Tierra Arnold, all of Kingsport, TN; great-niece, Jami Brooks, Bristol, VA four great-nephews, Austin Huffman, Alex Huffman, and Chandler Raleigh, all of Kingsport, TN; Cody Browning, Bristol, VA; the mother of his son, Linda Rominger, and his second mother, Cora Walker, both of Duffield, VA; two uncles, Ralph McMurray and wife Vivian, Blountville, TN; Eddie McMurray and wife Billie, Kingsport, TN; two aunts, Mae McMurray and Lola Taylor, both of Blountville, TN, several cousins, two very special friends, Angie "Mama" Gilbreath, and Roosevelt "Monk" Rhoton; three extra close companions, Flossie, Homie, and Ol'Owl.

The family will receive friends 5-9:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Evangelist Kenneth Neeley and Dr. W. A. Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA.

Pallbearers will be Ammon Huffman, Austin Huffman, Christopher Taylor, Chuck Browning, Paul McMurray, Dan Taylor, Bryan McMurray and Cody Browning.

Honorary pallbearers are Nathaniel Taylor, Summer Taylor, Alex Huffman, Chandler Raleigh, Tierra Arnold, Jeff Taylor, Angie Gilbreath, and Paul Bright.

The family wishes to thank Vanderbilt Lung Transplant Program, Vanderbilt University Medical Center MICU Dept., and all caregivers of Indian Path Medical Center ICU and 5th Floor Units during his illness.
