James L. Ballard Jr., 92 of Knoxville, died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
A native of Thorton, Washington, he served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He had lived in the Kingsport area since 1926 and was employed with the U.S. Post Office from 1936 until 1972.
Mr. Ballard was a former member of the Indian Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis K. Ballard; son, James Alan Ballard and parents, Mr. and Mrs. James L. Ballard Sr.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Cregger and husband Larry of Knoxville; a son, David Ballard and wife Jeannette of KY; five grandchildren, Jeff and Todd Cregger, Amy and Andrew Ballard and Stephen Witten; great-grandson, Chase Cregger; two sisters, Dorothy Wright and Maxine McDavid both of Kingsport; half brother, Clarence Jones of St. Louis, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Kenneth Ayers officiating.
