James Paul Barker, born March 22, 1934 in Sullivan County, went to be with the Lord Monday, January 5, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and an employee of Tennessee Eastman as a lab technician retiring in 1993.
James was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia E. Barker; his parents, James William Barker and Mollie Mae Barker; four sisters, Ruby Unangsx, Evie Barker, Evea Quillen, and Nettie Guy; and one brother, Officer Bruce Barker.
Surviving are one brother, Earl H. Barker and wife Edith E. Barker of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport or any time at 1516 Charles Street.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Stanley Sims and Pastor Joe W. Byrd officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion Post #3/265.
