James "Jim" Bowman, 79, Kingsport, was called home Sunday September 28, 2008 following an extended illness.
Jim was born in Gray, TN, where he lived until going to Shelby, NC, where he lived until retiring to Kingsport. He was a foster parent for many years while living in Shelby.
Jim worked as a cotton factory worker and in construction. He loved to fish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Bowman; his parents, Worley and Bonnie Bowman; and his niece, Edna Ruth Fredrick.
Surviving are his sister, Rebecca Ferguson, Kingsport; nieces and nephews, Margaret Jackson, Greenville, Christine Davenport, Junction City, KS, Connie Riner, Kingsport, and James Ferguson, Kingsport; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pete Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fordtown Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Ferguson, Larry Jessee, Jr. Riner, Haskel Smith, and Joe Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Ferguson, Michael Jackson, and Ronnie Ball.
