James McAuthur "Mack" Carter, 68, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning, August 31, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. He was born and had lived his entire life in Kingsport. He served honorably in the U.S. Army, and retired from AFG Industries, Kingsport, in 1997 after over 30 years of service.
Mack was co-founder and a charter member of Sunrise Baptist Church, having held several offices. He was a lover of all sports.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter and Ella Thompson Carter; brother, Roy Carter; infant sister, Joann Carter; and nephew, Earl Carter.
Mack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Morelock Carter; sons, Ronald Carter and wife, Susan, Rick Carter and wife, Becky, Todd Carter and wife, Beckie, and Chad Carter and wife, Linda; six grandchildren, Courtney Carter, James Carter and wife, Carolyn, Alex and Andy Carter, and Jaden Carter; one great-grandchild, Caidyn Carter; sister, Patsy Cody; and brother, Wayne Carter and wife, Ruth.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be conducted on Friday morning at 10:30 at Sunrise Baptist Church, with Rev Kelly Dykes officiating, and Wayne Harless offering the eulogy.
Interment at East Lawn Memorial Park will follow the service, with military rites by American Legion Posts #3/265. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim Carter, Roy Morelock, Ray Cain, Tim Dykes, Harold Jamerson, and James Bear.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sunrise Baptist Church, 3121 Long Hollow Road, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or the American Diabetes Association.
