James D. "Jimmy D" Coffman, 82, of Gray, TN, passed from this life on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at his home to his Heavenly home surrounded by his family. He was a loving daddy, father-in-law, papaw, brother and friend to all.
Jimmy D was born on January 8, 1930, in Sullivan County. He was the son of the late James P. and Mary Lee King Coffman. He was a devoted member of Beulah Baptist Church and loved the Lord and always loved going to church until his health declined. He loved his family and church family. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He had retired from the Mead following 44 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Wanda Reed Coffman; his parents; his sister, Jo Ann Coffman; and his brother-in-law, George Slaughter.
Jimmy D. is survived by his children, Larry and Teresa Coffman, Danny and Anita Coffman, all of Gray, TN, and Tina and Melvin Cox, of Jonesborough, TN; seven grandchildren, Trina Greg Drakulich, Brad Brandy Coffman, Todd Russell, Tennille Bobby Wines, Tisha Cox, Ryan and Amanda Coffman; five great-grandchildren, Hunter Hanzlik, Jersey and Rylee Wines, Baleigh and Brynlee Coffman; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Georgia Mae Gerald Malone, Nancy Slaughter, Mary Etta Jerry Minor; special aunt, Nellie Smith; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport.
There will be a Celebration of Life service on Jimmy D's birthday, Tuesday, January 8 at 12:00 noon at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Al South officiating. Andy Coffman will be singing Jimmy D's favorite hymn, "Beulah Land".
Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Coffman, Todd Russell, Ryan Coffman, Hunter Hanzlik, Bobby Wines and Melvin Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beulah Baptist Church, 491 Beulah Road, Kingsport, TN 37663.
