James Shannon Elder

James Shannon Elder

James Shannon "Marswolf" Elder was born February 17, 1949, and died Friday, September 19, 2008.

He graduated in 1967 from Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended the University of Tennessee and ETSU. Shannon served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was a member of the following organizations: Sons of Confederate Veterans, was a founding member of Holston Valley War Symposium, a life member of Old Campbell County Georgia Historical Society, the Bristol Preservation Society, Washington County Virginia Historical Society, East Tennessee Historical Society, Tipton-Haynes Historical Association, the 61st TN Co. "E" CSA re-enactment group; 59th TN Co "F" CSA re-enactment group; and Zollicoffer Mounted Rifles Reserves 4th Co. He also served on the Sullivan County Library Board from 2001-2007.

Shannon was preceded in death by his brother.

Surviving are his mother, Doris Elder; one niece; and one nephew.

A memorial service will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport Saturday, at Noon.
