James "Jim" B. Faris

James "Jim" B. Faris, Kingsport, passed away early Friday morning, June 29th, 2012, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief battle with malignant melanoma. Jim was born in Kingsport where he had resided his entire life. He was a 1961 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and ETSU where he received his degree in Economics. Jim worked at Holston Defense Corp. and Eastman Chemical Company until retiring in December 1999 from the Acetate Fibers Division with 34 years combined service. Jim was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

He worked with Junior Achievement, was a past member of the Kingsport Civitan Club and Kingsport Jaycees, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, was a member of Bays Mountain Astronomy Club and was a ham radio operator, AA4TN.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John Blake Faris and Mildred Clark Faris.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mrs. Patty Faris; two daughters, Paige Shipley and husband, Robert of Kingsport, and Holly Franklin and husband, Greg of Knoxville;and two grandchildren, Ethan Franklin and Logan Franklin, of Knoxville.

The family will receive friends 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 3rd at 11:00 am at Old Glade Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Glade Spring, VA with Pastor Gary Bement officiating.
