James D. "Jimmy" Fugate

James D. "Jimmy" Fugate, 70, of Blountville, died Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the emergency room of Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born in Kingsport on November 15, 1943, a son of the late Martha and George Fugate, Sr., he had resided in this area his entire life. He worked for 9 years at Holston Defense and retired from Eastman Chemical Company in 1997 following a combined total of 34 years. Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attended Holy Mountain Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, J B Fugate, sister and brother-in-law, Mable and Mack Hickman and brother-in-law, Ransom Ketron.

Jimmy is survived by his soulmate of 52 years, Joan Hicks Fugate; three children, Pam Sprouse and husband, Tim "Beau" of Blountville, Doug Fugate of Blountville and Chris Fugate of Kingsport; granddaughter, Sarah "Lucy" Sprouse; five grandsons, Cody, Caleb and Carter Sprouse, and Sebastian and Colton Fugate and mother, Sara Fugate; sister, Ruth Ketron of Kingsport; brother, Donnie Fugate and wife, Carolyn of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Darlene Fugate of Kingsport; sisters-in-law, Faye Bailey and husband, Mike, and Patricia Robinette and husband, Harold; brothers-in-law, Jim Hicks and wife, Linda, and Jack Hicks and wife, Patty; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Mickey Ketron; and a host of friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to our family doctor and friend, Daniel Carroll MD and Mountain States Home Health Care RN's and therapist, Angel, and to all the friends, family and all who helped in his care and lifted the family in prayer.

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6-8:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Jerry Musick and son-in-law, Tim "Beau" Sprouse officiating. A Flag Presentation will be rendered by The American Legion.

Pallbearers will be Cody Sprouse, Caleb Sprouse, Carter Sprouse, Sebastian Fugate, Colton Fugate, Gary Trent, Tony Fugate, Lawrence Hickman, Wayne Hickman, Porter Bailey, Michael Paul Willis, Jim Bo Hicks, Kenny Carter, Brandon Hicks, Shannon Bishop, Jimmy Robinette, Harold Robinette, Jr., Bob Reynolds, Jordan Tribble, and Joe Falardeau.

Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Fugate, Jim Hicks, Jack Hicks, Mike Bailey, and Harold Robinette, Sr.

Those attending graveside services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 10:00 am Saturday and then proceed to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 400 N. State of Franklin Rd., Johnson City, TN 37604.
