James Harmon Garretson, 90, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.
He was born in Morristown, but had resided the majority of his life in Kingsport. Mr. Garretson served in the SeaBees in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific campaign. He received the Bronze Star during his service. He had worked with Bays Mountain Construction Company and Tennessee Eastman Company, retiring in 1983 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church.
Mr. Garretson was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Stella Jo Gibson Garretson; his parents, Alonzo and Leatha Garretson; three sisters, Lizzie Belle Long, Laura Long, and Lucille Garretson; his twin brother, George Garretson; and a half-brother, Tom Stapleton.
He is survived by a daughter, Vicky Garretson; a brother, Robert Garretson and wife, Bessie Pearl, of Morristown; special nephew, Garry Garretson and wife, Pam, of Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. Services will begin at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Raymond Amos officiating. Music will be provided by Patty Waugh.
Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kingsley United Methodist Church, 2828 Bloomingdale Road, Kingsport, TN 37660, or to the Kingsport Animal Shelter, 2141 Idle Hour Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
