James "Jim" Ralph Going

James "Jim" Ralph Going

James "Jim" Ralph Going, 72, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Wilcox Hall.

He was born in Kingsport on March 21, 1938 to parents, Earl and Ethel Going. Jim was an alumna of Dobyns-Bennett High School Class of 55. He graduated with his BBA and MBA from ETSU and obtained his CPA. He served in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany during the Berlin Crisis.

Jim wed Bernice Marie Cox on October 13, 1956. In their 54 years together, they were church members of Glenwood Baptist Church. Early in his career, he worked several years at AFG Industries and moved on to become Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration at Holston Valley Community Hospital. Jim worked for several years with Appalachian OBGYN and Mountain States Health Alliance.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and "Papaw" who will be greatly missed.

His parents, Earl and Ethel Going preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Bernice Going; daughters, Angela Masters and husband Mark of Kingsport, Valerie Thayer and husband David of Knoxville; grandchildren, Drew Masters, Katie Masters, Braden Thayer and Brooke Thayer; sisters and brother-in-law, Frances Dillion, Earleen and Jack Taylor; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Pauline and Rick Frazier, Margaret and Norman Vaughn, Doris Cox, and Mary Slemp; and many very special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday June 30, 2010 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Services will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Charles Roberts officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday July 1, 2010 at Oak Hill Memorial Park with military rites by the American Legion Posts #3/265.

Pallbearers will be Bill Copas, Shaun Copas, Matthew Hale, Wayne Hale, Rick Frazier, and David Cook.

A special thank you is extended to Palliative Care and Wellmont Hospice; and to caregiver, Wanda Harkleroad for their exceptional care of Jim.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations make be made to Glenwood Baptist Church, 2601 E. Center Street, Kingsport, TN 37664.
