James Greene

James Greene, 88, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 17, 2014, at his home. Born in Jefferson County, he resided in Kingsport most of his life. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. James was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked at the Kingsport Press for 18 years as a pressman and then he began teaching printing to adults and high school students. He taught at Washington County Virginia Skills Center, Virginia High in Bristol, and Sullivan South High School where he retired. James served as minister of music at Sullivan Baptist Church and then joined Indian Springs Baptist Church where he was a member of the church choir and men's adult Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Greene; daughter, Janice Smith; two brothers, Don and Gary Greene; and an infant sister.

James is survived by son, Jim Greene of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Derrick Smith, Wendy Edwards and husband, Evan, Joel Smith and wife, Jennifer, Aaron Greene and Andrew Greene; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; brother, Jay Greene of Kingsport; sister, Anna Ruth Colvin of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 4-6:00 pm at Indian Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 6:00 pm with Dr. Roc Collins and Dr. David Phillips officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Joel Smith, Derrick Smith, Aaron Greene, Andrew Greene, Evan Edwards, Jessee Clubb and Jonas Clubb.
