James M. Harris, 82, Mount Carmel, TN, died Monday, December 18, 2006, at the home of his son following an extended illness.

Mr. Harris was born in Unicoi County Flag Pond, and has been a resident of Mount Carmel for many years. He was an active member of Power Point Ministries church. James retired from the Kingsport Foundry in 1994 after fifty-two years of service as a blacksmith. He was a veteran of World War II, having received a Purple Heart while serving as a tank driver in the U.S. Army. As well as being a skilled blacksmith, James was also an excellent craftsman of beautiful cabinets and furniture. In his spare time he enjoyed camping and fishing with his wife, Goldie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Sarah Harris; infant daughter, Lisa Robin; one brother, John D. Harris; and one sister, Virginia Harris Skrinski.

Survivors are his wife of sixty years, Goldie Williams Harris, one daughter, Sandra Hambrick, of Gray; one son, Ronnie Harris and wife, Sandy, of Kingsport; two granddaughters, Shannon Crawford and husband, Jon, of Mooresville, N.C., and Tonya Johnson and husband, Brian, of Jonesborough; one grandson, Jason Wynn, of Jonesborough; one great-granddaughter, Bailey Wynn; three great-grandsons, Josh Alley, Tyler and Broc Crawford; two sisters, Alice Strickler, of Paducah, KY, and Dorothy Kidd, of Melbourne, FL; four brothers, Raymond Harris and wife Jean of Kingsport, Earl Harris and wife Eve of San Lorenzo, CA, Keener Harris and wife Barbara of Powell, TN, and Wayne Ken Harris and wife Ina of Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport and any time at the home of James? son, Ronnie at 768 Liberty Drive, Kingsport, TN.

Services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Jack Forbes officiating. Music will be provided by Irene Conkin and Jim Bishop.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Gunnings Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Pallbearers will be Henry Malone, Henry Atkins, Ricky Quisenberry, Todd Harris, Gary Delcamp, Butch Ward, Matt Gilmore and Wayne Larkins.
