James Carlos Hawkins, 90, of Kingsport, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Indian Path Medical Center. Born in Russell County, VA, he had resided in Kingsport most of his life. Mr. Hawkins retired from Kingsport Foundry in 1984 after 45 years of service. He was a member of Hermon United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ocia Jerree Hawkins; daughter-in-law, Sue Hawkins; two granddaughters, Michelle Hawkins and Stephanie Potts; 4 sisters, Maggie Maxwell, Grace Fugate, Etta Haynes and Patsy Collins; and three brothers, Wesley Hawkins, Emmitt Hawkins and Halbert McCraw.
James is survived by daughter, Louise Harrison and husband, Bob of Kingsport; 5 sons, Edgar Hawkins and wife, Barbara of Kingsport, Wayne Hawkins of Hilton, VA, Dennis Hawkins and wife, Angie of Kingsport, Michael Hawkins and wife, Linda of Gray, and Aaron Hawkins and wife, Cindy of Kingsport; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Hawkins and wife, Innell of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Hubert Dixon.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 7:00 pm with Rev. Raymond Amos, Sr. officiating.
The graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 am at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Allen Hawkins, Tim Newland, Marty Hawkins, Scott Hawkins, Brandon Hawkins and Kevin Collins.
