James Cecil Head, 74, of the Fordtown Community passed away Monday, April 13, 2009. He died doing one of the things he loved the most - farming. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He touched so many lives and will be missed very much by those who knew him.
He retired from the TEC Organic Chemicals Division of Tennessee Eastman in 1999 after 42 years of service. In addition to farming, he loved to go to the flea market on the weekends. He was a member of Double Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Head was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard and Marsha Winegar Head; two brothers, R.L. Head and Ray Head, and a sister, Dorothy Presley.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley Head of the home; a daughter, Debra Emogene Head Crawford and husband Hugh Samuel Crawford, Jr. of Bloomingdale; a son, Kenneth Eugene Head and Angela Michelle Head, also of the Bloomingdale Community; one sister, Thelma Tate and husband Don of Kingsport; three brothers, Rev. Eckel Head and wife Brenda, Kingsport, Bob Head and wife Maudella, also of Kingsport, Rev. Harold Head and wife Judy of Surgoinsville; a special uncle, Echol Fansler of Yuma, VA; three granddaughters, Caitlin Leighann Head and Alexis Danielle Head of Bloomingdale and Crystal Gayle Haynes and husband Jason of Mt. Carmel; one great-grandson, Kaden Samuel Haynes, also of Mt. Carmel; several nieces and nephews and a long list of friends.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Double Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. David Powers and Dr. Ed Dillowe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with the body to be taken to the church one hour before services.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Bowery, Tim Presley, Ethan Presley, Casey Head, Stacy Head, and Tracy Head. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hulse, Kaden Haynes, Caitlin Head, Alexis Head, and Logan Price.
