James "Jim" Emory Hunt Sr

James "Jim" Emory Hunt, Sr., born on Oct. 17, 1929 in Tarrytown, NY, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer.

Jim graduated from White Plains, New York High School and later from Bucknell University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was employed by Coppers in Pittsburg, PA, and Naugatuck Chemical in Naugatuck, CT, before going to Iowa State University for a M.S. in Chemical Engineering.

At Iowa State he met Pat and they were married in 1958, two weeks before they moved to Kingsport for employment with Eastman Kodak. He worked in Research, Engineering, and Acid Divisions.

Since 1962, Jim was an active member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. He sang in the choir, taught several age groups in Sunday School (with 3 year olds being a favorite), served as a deacon and on several committees. He also volunteered with American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity.

After retirement, he and Pat enjoyed traveling to all 50 states and Canada. Children and grandchildren often accompanied them to Dollywood.

Jim was preceded in death by parents Rev. Horace and Harriet Hunt; brother, Dr. Fred Hunt; and son, William Hunt.

He is survived by his wife Pat; son, Rev. James (Cindy) Hunt, Jr., of McMinnville, TN; daughters, Barbara (Dan) Slay of Norcross, GA; and Carol (Patrick) Neighbors of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, who were all very special to him: Josh, Lauren, and Jake Hunt; Danal and Kyle Slay; and Camden and Rowan Neighbors; sister, Marge Latrell; brother, Rev. Horace (Elva) Hunt, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Helen Hunt.

The family will receive friends at Colonial Heights Baptist Church from 4 - 7 p.m. Monday, May 12. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. James E. Hunt, Jr., presiding.

Burial will be for family only at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Sons-in-law and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
