James "Skip" Johnson, 63, of Kingsport went to be with the Lord Friday November 26, 2010.
Skip was a born again Christian and attended Orebank Freewill Baptist Church. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, and grandfather and had a great sense of humor. He never met a stranger and loved aviation. Skip was a Vietnam Veteran.
Preceding him in death are his mother and step-father, Okelee and Woody Mounger; sister, Aileen Walker; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and Rev. James Akers.
Survivors including his wife of 41 years, Judy Johnson; two daughters, Melissa Hale and husband Mike of Kingsport, Misty Page and husband Tim Lee of Blountville; one son, Skip Johnson of Kingsport; three grand-daughters, Haley Page, Ramsey Page and Mattie Hale; one step-grandson, Josh Lee; three nieces; and a special friend, Kenneth Minnick, who was closer than a brother, along with many other close friends.
A special thank you to oncology unit at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center and Melanie Chesney.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. The service will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Charles E. Wallen and Rev. Greg Collins officiating.
The musicians will be Denise Moore, Orville Rogers and Matt Roberts.
A Military Graveside service by the American Legion Post 3/265 will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mike Hale, Tim Lee, Chris Blevins, Alan Kidd, Joel Moore, Brent Wallen, and Larry Overbay.
Honorary Pallbearer will be Kenneth Minnick.
