James D. Justis, 66, Kingsport, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Born in Greeneville, he had resided most of his life in Kingsport. He was a graduate of North Greene High School and had retired from Tennessee Eastman following 31 years of service where he had worked in Tenite and CE Divisions. He was a member of Cross Anchor Presbyterian Church.
He had been a member of Bays Mountain Longbeards, and loved to turkey hunt and fish. He had worked with girls teams both in basketball and softball with the Sullivan Garden's Optimist Club. James loved bluegrass music and attended many festivals with Bill Monroe being his favorite
James enjoyed UT Basketball and Football along with NASCAR, Dale Earnhart being a favorite and Dale Jr. his favorite now. He was an avid reader and really missed being able to read due to his illness.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, his children, grandchildren, and most of all, by his loving wife of almost 50 years.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Drew and Pauline Justis, and nephew, Stephen Justis.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jayne Justis; daughter, Lori Lane; son, Kevin Justis; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Savannah, Hiley and Clayton; great-granddaughter, Scyeria; sister, Thanna Hankins and husband, Ben; 2 brothers, Danny Justis and wife, Rita, and Tom Justis and wife, Pat; sister-in-law, Kay Etta Reaves; and several nieces and nephews.
Thank you to his special friends, Toy and Karen Simpson, Tony Simpson, and Larry Combs, brothers, Danny and Tom, his sister, Thanna, their families and to his good friends, Charlotte and Gladys. And a special thank you to his doctors and all the nurses who helped care for him.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm.
The graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Cross Anchor Cemetery, Greene County.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
