James Stephen "Jim" Marshall, 72, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Hawkins County and lived the latter part of his life in Kingsport.
Jim was a graduate of Church Hill High School. He retired with disability from General Shale Corporation following 26 years of service where he served in various roles including electrical and hydraulic mechanic, in research and development, and as Foreman and Assistant Superintendent at Block Plant 51.
We would like to express thanks and appreciation to the nurses and staff of Mountain States Hospice for the love and support they gave to Jim and his family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Effie Lee Marshall.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Blizzard Marshall; daughter Lisa Ramey and husband Roy; daughter Stephanie Meade and husband Eddie; and son David Marshall and fiancée Jamie; 3 grandchildren, Jamie Marshall, Josh Meade, and Brittany Tipton, who were a great joy in his life. Other survivors include 2 sisters, Linda Burnette and husband, Rod, and Nancy Carter and husband David; father-in-law, Claude Blizzard; sisters-in-law Virgie Ferrell and Frances Jenkins, and husband Bob; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport and at other hours at the residence. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Mitch Russell officiating. Special music will be provided by Rod Burnette.
The graveside service will be at Church Hill Memory Gardens on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at 2 p.m. Friends may go in procession from the funeral home or meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mike Burnette, Jason Ferrell, Brian Ferrell, Ronald Ramey, Bronson Light, and Thomas Skelton. Carl Light will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or via www.strokeassociation.org. All donations will remain local.
