James D. Jim Martin, 73, Mt. Carmel, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Saturday October 6, 2007 at Greystone Health Care following an extended illness.
Jim was born in Princeton, WV, and had been a resident of Kingsport for more than 50 years. He was a sales representative for Counts Automotive, and later J. A. McCurry, and then Sterling Service Warehouse of Knoxville, retiring in 1988. Jim then became administrator for the Kingsport Lodge #972 Loyal Order of Moose for 12 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the Loyal Order Moose, where he received the Pilgrim Degree and was a lifetime member. Jim was also a member of Vermont United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Martin Carter; and step-father, James E. Carter.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Shupe Martin, of the home; daughter, Pamela Lynn Martin Wiggins and husband, Paul, Church Hill, TN; sons, James Michael Martin and wife, Carolyn, Kingsport, and Larry David Martin, of the home; five grandchildren, Heather Darnell, Melinda Wiggins, Amanda Skelton, Paula Denise Wiggins, and Jennifer Martin; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Darnell and Maegan Hope Darnell.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, with Ed Neale officiating. A Moose Memorial service will follow by Kingsport Lodge #972. The family will receive friends following the service.
It was Jim?s wish to be cremated.
Honorary pallbearers will be J. B. Johnson, Jim Campbell, Bob Price, Lee White, Ed Neal, R. C. Hood, Jack Casey, John Richardson, and Johnny Mellons.
