James Calvin McClain

James C. "J. C." McClain, 65, of Church Hill went to be with the Lord Friday morning, December 5, 2008, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an apparent heart attack.

He was born in the Sunset Community of Sullivan County where he resided most of his life before moving to Church Hill several years ago. J. C. was a retired roofer.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Sallie McClain; brothers, Claude Lee McClain and Charles Edward McClain; and one sister, Mildred Guy.

Surviving are his ex-wife, Ruby McClain; a daughter, Debbie McClain of Kingsport; one granddaughter, Ashley McClain and fiancé Fred Stump of Kingsport; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Brandon Stump; one sister, Mary Ann Phillips and husband Robert of Piney Flats; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Junior Mendenhall and wife Vanessa.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor J. W. Depew officiating. Burial will follow at McPheeters Bend Church Cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
