James R. "Jim" McCrary

James R. "Jim" McCrary, 91, Kingsport, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at his residence. He was born in Jasper, Alabama, grew up in Big Stone Gap. He was the former owner of Lums Restaurant in Norfolk, VA. He retired to Bracy, VA before moving back to Kingsport several years ago. Jim was a member of Norview Masonic Lodge #113, Scottish Rite, Khedive Shrine Temple and a charter member of Eastern Star Lodge #157 in Big Stone Gap. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church of Ebony, VA. Jim was a Navy Veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Violet Ritchie McCrary; parents, John Henry McCrary, Sr. and Versie McCrary; brother, John Henry McCrary II; and sister, Dean Bell.

Jim is survived by daughters, Barbara M. Johnson, Linda M. Clary and husband, Charles, Jimmie S. Coats and husband, Robert, and Donna M. Barron; grandchildren, Monica A. Lane, Cassandra L. Powers, Bill J. Clark, Jr., Wendy C. Duncan, Robert A. Coats, April D. Osborne, Carrie A. Smith, and Bill Barron; 14 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Roy Lee McCrary, Sr.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 -7:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Masonic services will follow at 7:00 pm and special words by Rev. Jeff DeBoard.

Graveside services will be conducted on Friday at 2:00 pm at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, VA with military honors provided by the American Legion.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Maude Stanley.
