James Robert Mendenhall

James Robert Mendenhall, 59, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord August 10, 2009, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born and raised in Sullivan County, James loved his children and grandchildren, fishing, and hunting. He was a member of Homeland Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Myrtle Mendenhall, and an infant brother.

James is survived by his wife of 36½ years, Sue Mendenhall of Kingsport; a daughter, Angela Roberts and husband Keith of Church Hill; a son, Robert Mendenhall and wife Jennifer of South Carolina; four grandchildren, Devyn Perkins, Victoria Mendenhall, Robert Kyle Mendenhall, and Cheyenne Roberts; a sister, Brenda Starnes and husband Donald of Kingsport; a brother, Guy Mendenhall, Jr. and wife Vanessa of Church Hill; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Patsy and Virgil Booker of Kingsport; special friend and "brother", Eugene Barrett and wife Glenda and family; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating.

Burial will be on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Depew's Chapel Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Mendenhall, Donald Starnes, Daniel Booker, David Booker, Mike Daugherty, Billy Hensley, Keith Roberts, and Jerry Clark.

The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor J.W. Depew and everyone at Homeland Baptist Church and to their very special aunts, Mary Daugherty, Irene Carr, Susie Hensley, and Mildred Roberts.
