James Ralph Hartsock, 92, Kingsport, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2018. He was born in the Grassy Creek Community of Russell County VA and served in the US Navy during WWII. Ralph barbered at the Green Acres Barbershop in Kingsport for many years. He loved singing and entertaining anybody who would listen.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mildred D. Hartsock; son, Rodney D. Hartsock; and son-in-law, David H. Lane.
James is survived by his daughters, Sheila Davis (Tommy), and Sharon Lane; son, Rodney M. Hartsock (Misty); special grandchildren, Emily, Cassidy, Sydney, Charity and James; grandchildren, Tom Davis (Colleen), Missy Hass (Kevin), Elisha Effel (Jack), Jeremiah Lane (Amanda), Kristen Harmon (Brett), and Sarah Davis; 14 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Hartsock (Doris), Guy Hartsock (Louise), Fred Hartsock (Alma), and Claude Hartsock, Jr. (Pat); sisters, Maudie Vaughn, Shirly Price, Polly Lewis (Bernard), Judy Cross, Linda Hall (Leonard), Phyllis Harter (Charles), and Patricia Clark; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A special thanks to Penny and Melanie and the rest of the staff at Hillview Nursing Home and Rehab.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport with Rev. Rodney M. Hartsock officiating. Burial will follow in Skeens Family Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Posts 3/265.
