Harold Salyer, 84, of the Rock Spring Community, passed away November 4, 2009 at Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born in Castlewood, VA and had resided in Kingsport since 1940. Harold retired from TEC in 1986 after 44 years of service. He was a member if Rock Springs UMC, but attended Morrison Chapel UMC.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife Helen H. Salyer, parents, Arnold and Myrtle Salyer, and brother, Dallas Salyer.
He is survived by sisters Ruth Burke, Marie Sparks, and Annalee Salyer; sisters-in-law Eunice Salyer and Janice Hite; nieces Sharron Herr, Lisa Morelock, and Connie Rogers; and nephews Ronald Salyer, Tommy Salyer , and David Salyer, all of Kingsport. Also surviving are several great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport Friday, November 6, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Salyer, Tommy Salyer, David Salyer, Jeffrey Salyer, Matthew Salyer, and Paul Burke.
Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Ray Amos, Jr. officiating. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 3/265.
Those who wish may join the family at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home at 12:30 pm to go in procession to the cemetery.
