James R. "Jim" Sneed

James R. “Jim” Sneed, 77, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Holston Manor following a period of declining health.  Born in Sullivan County, TN on March 6, 1941, a son of the late Henry and Stella Byrd Sneed, he had resided in this area his entire life. He attended Holston High School and was a former employee of Holston Defense and Tarkells in Johnson City. Jim was of the Baptist faith.   He had a love for animals, especially his cat, Sunshine.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Erika Sluss and all the staff at Amedisys Hospice, to the staff at Holston Manor, and to Dr. Aaron Metcalf, who was Jim’s doctor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, John and Roy Sneed of Kingsport, and Randolph Sneed of Gillespie, Illinois.

Jim is survived by 2 daughters, Kathy Housewright of Winston-Salem, NC, and Tammy Sneed of Nashville; son, Michael Sneed of Nashville; 4 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Patterson and husband, Wayne of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 pm on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Burial will follow committal services at 2:00 pm on Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park Chaplain Ryan Wagoner officiating.

Those attending committal services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:45 pm on Monday.
