James William Stapleton

James William Stapleton, 87, of Gate City, went to be with his heavenly Father, Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Ridgecrest Manor. He was born in Kingsport but lived most of his life in Scott County. James retired from AFG and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sue Stapleton; father, Alfred J. Stapleton; mother, Nannie Irene Stapleton; and sisters, Ruth Hill, Loretta Arnold, and Jean Herron.

James is survived by his son, David Stapleton and wife Ramona; and grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, and Josie.

Special thanks to Ridgecrest Manor and staff, especially nurse Jason Gilliam, who Dad considered his adopted grandson.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at East Lawn Memorial Park with Pastor Ryan Shaffer officiating. Military graveside rites will be presented by the American Legion Post 3/265 and the Virginia National Guard.
