James "Jim" Statzer, 74, of Kingsport, passed away following an extended illness. A native of Hansonville, VA, he was the son of the late Blane and Nettie Belle Price Statzer. Jim served in the Army National Guard and was employed at Quebecor Printing, retiring after 45 years of service. He was an active member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and Fellowship Sunday School Class for 35 years. Jim enjoyed volunteering and working at Bristol Motor Speedway for a number of years during the races.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry William Statzer, and brother-in-law, John F. Swanay.
Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Swanay Statzer of the home; son, James M. Statzer II and wife, Kim of Newnan, GA; two grandchildren, Caroline and Jack Statzer of Newnan, GA; sister, Erma Hylton and husband, Carl of Kingsport; brother, Fred Statzer and wife, Jondra of McKinney, TX; sister-in-law, Sherrie Statzer of Antioch, TN; brother-in-law, Clabe Swanay and wife, Mary Helen of Kingsport; niece, Stephanie Johnston of Nashville, TN; and nephew, Chris Statzer of Frisco, TX.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 1-3:00 pm at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm with Rev. Robert Burlingham officiating.
