James "Jim" Taylor, 53, Gate City, died Sunday morning, December 15, 2013, suddenly at work. Jim was born July 19, 1960, in Kingsport, TN, and was a life-long resident of the Yuma community. Jim was a graduate of Gate City High School class of 1978. Jim started his apprenticeship at Eastman in 1979 and has worked there for the past 34 years. Jim was a very loving, funny, and caring person was an avid racing fan throughout his life. He built many model cars. He was of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Ervin Taylor, and several aunts and uncles.
Jim is survived by his mother, Vivian Taylor; his wife, Carmen; his son, Jimmy of the home; his sister, Rita Quillen (Paul) of Hiltons; his brother, Gary Taylor (Carolyn) of Church Hill; nephews, Stephen Taylor (Kelsey) for Fort Blackmore, Wayne Taylor (Sherry) of West Virginia, and Charles Quillen (Barbara) of Church Hill; nieces, Connie Quillen of Yuma, and Melinda Abston (Chris) of Florida; and several great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Hamlett-Dobson, Kingsport. The graveside service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Holston View Cemetery, with Rev. Cecil Stapleton, Rev. Don Hanshew, and Rev. Jeffrey DeBoard officiating. Pallbearers will be Paul Quillen, Stephen Taylor, Wayne Taylor, Charles Quillen, Dean Grills, and Tom Patterson. Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Pendleton and the 143 Maintenance Shop.
