James Thomas ?Tommy? Taylor, 62, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 12, 2007 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born August 14, 1944 in Sullivan County, Tommy was a graduate of Holston High School. He served in the U. S. Army and the National Guard and retired from Tennessee Eastman after 32 years of service. Tommy was a loving husband and father and enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of Summerville Baptist Church.
His parents, James A. and Veda Z. Taylor preceded him in death.
Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Opal Crawford Taylor, Kingsport; one daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Jimmy Day, Lenoir City, TN; one son, Mickey Taylor, Kingsport; two brothers, Don Taylor, Fall Branch and Perry ?Doug? Taylor and wife, June of St. Clair Shores, MI; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty and Morris Dutton, Clara and Tom McCloud, Nancy and Orville Cox, all of Kingsport. He is also survived by several sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Orville Dolen officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Gunnings Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW. Those wishing to attend the graveside services will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday to go in procession.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
