James W. Hicks, 64, Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Greystone Healthcare, following a period of declining health. Born in Yeager, West Virginia on May 7, 1951, a son of the late Claude Stepp and Hazel Bowen, he had resided in this area his entire life.
He was a Veteran, having served in the US Navy and Army National Guard. James retired from Holston Valley Hospital Construction in 2002 after 5 years of service. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, Pop, granddaddy, brother and friend who loved fishing and riding his Harley.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Greystone Healthcare and Caris Healthcare.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 1 sister, grandparents, uncles and aunts.
He is survived by his son, James D. "J.D." Hicks of Kingsport; daughter, Vickie Bartley of Kingsport; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Billy Rasnick of West Virginia, and Roger Rasnick of Michigan; 2 sisters, Ollie Martin of Kingsport, and Nancy Cline of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Shirl Hicks and Tom Robinson.
It was Mr. Hick's wish to be cremated and no services have been scheduled at this time.
