James Keene White

James Keene White

Keene White, age 91, passed away at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Bailey. He was born on October 9, 1920 and resided in Kingsport his entire life.

He was married to Mildred McCary White who predeceased him in death in 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents, I. W. and Sue Chambers White; baby brother, William Carl White; brother, J. Blaine White; sister, Mary W. Arrington; daughter, Susan W. Fox; and son, Jim White.

Survivors include a sister, Helen W. Johnson; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Bailey; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sheila Callahan White; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Anne Ton White; daughters-in-law, Diana Morgan White and Jean Kendrick; son-in-law, Donald Fox. Grandchildren include, Lee Fox, Jonathan White, Alexandra W. Everett, Richard Hicks, Will Bailey, Beth B. Nye, and Lindsay J. White, and Elizabeth Anne White. Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. White retired in 1985 after 46 years, from Kingsport Power Company, last serving as personnel director. He graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and East Tennessee State University.

Military service included serving during WWII as an infantryman in the European Theater. He received the Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart and Cluster. He attended Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder. He received the Distinguished Service Award in 1952 by the Kingsport Jaycees and also served as Charter President, and Past President and Life Member. He was a past member of Kingsport Sertoma, and was active in the VITA Program, Sequoyah Council, Boy Scouts of America, Kingsport Mental Health Association, Red Cross, Kingsport Preaching Mission, Bible Teaching Association, and Salvation Army.

A memorial service with visitation afterwards will be held at Waverly Road Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Daniel S. Clark officiating, on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Waverly Road Columbarium.

Memorials may be made to Waverly Road Presbyterian Church, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1401B Old Mill Circle, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
