James Mack Whitlock

James Mack Whitlock, 86, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2010 at home with Ethel Hawk Whitlock, his wife of 60 years, by his side.

He was born in Washington County Tennessee and graduated from Jonesborough High School. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army Signal Corps in the European Theater. He served as a store manager in the Charles Department Store for 27 years and retired from Premier Industrial Corporation.

Mack was a member of Colonial Heights United Methodist Church and the Upper Room Sunday School Class. He was a talented painter and had a passion for gardening. He was active in Boy Scouts, serving as Scout Master for many years. During his retirement, Mack became an excellent cook.

In addition to his wife, Ethel Hawk Whitlock, survivors include, son, Dr. James A. Whitlock and wife Debbie of Nashville; daughter, Cheri Dahl and husband Charles of Richmond, Virginia; grandsons, Christopher Whitlock, Wes Dahl, Mason Dahl; sister, Haldine Whitlock of Johnson City; brothers, Weldon Whitlock of Johnson City, Kyle Whitlock and wife Carol of Massilon, Ohio; brother-in-law, Curtis Payne of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents Tolbert and Pearl Whitlock; and two brothers, Fred Whitlock and wife Dorothy, Kenneth Whitlock and wife Zalene.

The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4:30p.m. to 6:30p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport. Funeral services will follow at 6:30p.m. with Rev. Tom Seay officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00a.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be Curt Payne, Wayne Watson, George Bradley, Jim Hall, Roy Hall and Wayne Whitson.
