Jane Lewis Freehoff, 96, of Kingsport, died Sunday (October 29, 2017) at Brookdale Senior Living Solutions in Colonial Heights.
She was born in Elmira, NY and moved to Kingsport in the 1920s with her parents when her father opened the Blue Ridge Glass Plant. Jane attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated from Abbott Art School in Washington, D.C, where she majored in fashion and costume design.
Jane worked as a draftsman for Holston Army Ammunition Plant, and later as a freelance artist for the Art Department of the Kingsport Press, where she designed college yearbook covers. She was very active in girl scouts, serving as a troop and regional leader for several years. Jane was also a member of the Kingsport Junior League, Kingsport Book Club and an active communicant of the Anglican Catholic Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Senior Living for their wonderful care of Jane during her stay with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph H. and Florence Meyers Lewis; and husband, William F. Freehoff.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Freehoff Saunders and husband, Dr. Ernest Saunders, North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Suzanne Freehoff Loring and husband, Michael, Kingsport; and two grandsons, James David Saunders and CPT William Bryan Loring, U.S.A.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 5 at 1:00 pm at St. Peter the Apostle Anglican Church, 3321 Thornton Drive, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm holy communion with The Rev. Robert Placer officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Memorial Park.
Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers, and D. Bruce Shine, JD will serve as honorary pallbearer.
