Jane Litton Charles

Jane Litton Charles, 80, of Johnson City, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at her residence, following a period of declining health.

Born in Kingsport on July 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Clarence and Maude Litton. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1955. Jane graduated from East Tennessee State College in 1960 with a degree in Education. She retired from State of Virginia Department of Education, Fairfax County in 2006, following 50 years of service. Jane will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who loved quilting. The first love of her life was her husband, her second love was teaching.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Doran Charles, of Johnson City; daughter, Laura Jane Johnson and husband, Russell of Dumfries, VA; two grandchildren, Harrison Charles Johnson and Madeline Johnson.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
