Jane Roberts Whitmire

Rachel Jane Roberts Whitmire, age 99, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Brookhaven Manor. Born in Knoxville in 1915, daughter of the late Thomas E. Roberts and Grace Bayless Ford Roberts, she had resided in Kingsport for over 70 years. She attended Knoxville High School where she was a cheerleader and drum major.

Mrs. Whitmire was an avid golfer, bridge player, knitted and crocheted most of her life. She was a member of Kingsport Community Church. Jane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David F. Whitmire of Kingsport; sisters, Betty Roberts Withers of Oak Ridge, and Dorothy Roberts Rudder of Knoxville; and brothers, Thomas F. Roberts and James C. Roberts, both of Knoxville.

Jane is survived by two daughters, Betty Jane Baker and husband, Tommy of Kingsport, and Vicki Whitmire of Bristol; three grandchildren, Lori Cutshall and husband, Keith of Blountville, David Baker and wife, Rachel of Kingsport, and Rachael Baker of Jackson, WY; one great-granddaughter, Jada Baker; and several nieces and nephews. She was our "Mimmie."

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 12-2:00 pm at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Ron Lowe and Rev. Mark Stayton officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
