Janet D. Elliott, 90 years young, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 2, 2023. She was the only child to Clyde and Vergie Skeen Davidson. Janet grew up in Wise, Virginia, where she met the love of her life, Leland Byron Elliott. They made their home in Kingsport, TN, and were members of Colonial Heights Baptist Church. Janet was very involved in all aspects of church life, including teaching school and Bible studies, and was very active with the Homebound Ministry and the Senior Adults Ministries. She had a servant heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. Her family, friends, neighbors, and community were her career. She took her job seriously and was always looking for ways to help. Janet was a prayer warrior and kept a book of requests and praises. She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and enjoyed many hobbies. Janet was involved in many activities throughout her church and community. She loved to read, enjoyed many years of camping adventures, dancing, and playing cards. Janet was the ultimate host and loved to entertain. She and Bryon shared a love for music and enjoyed attending concerts and festivals throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband and sweetheart of 62 years, Byron Elliott.
Janet and Byron were blessed with four children, Cynthia Barnes (Bill) of Bonita Springs, FL, William Byron Elliott (Nancy) of Ellijay, GA, Karen E. Hall (Richard) of Knoxville, TN, and David Elliott of TN; six grandchildren, Brad Elliott (Angie) of Albany, GA, Andrew Hall (Jamie) of Knoxville, TN, Rachel Elliott Norman (Austin) of Marietta, GA, Cynthia Ashlea Hall of Nashville, Rebecca Elliott Wilson (Steve) of Marietta, GA, and Kristin Barnes Morris (Zach) of Los Angeles, CA; and great-grandchildren, whom she enjoyed seeing, Emma, Liam, and Wren Elliott, Brock and Piper Wilson, Liv, Wayland, and Mavi Hall; and baby girl Morris coming in February.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to the wonderful nurses and caretakers of Dominion Senior Living at Johnson City, where Janet made her home for 4 years. The family also appreciates all the care and love she received from the staff at Storypoint Senior Living, Knoxville, TN, where she had resided for her last 6 months.
She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends, but we all rejoice knowing she is with her Savior, and her family and friends that have gone before her.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2023, in the chapel at Colonial Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, and Samaritans Purse.
