Janice Whitlock Steadman, 78, Church Hill, died at midnight, February 1, 2010, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. Janice grew up in Church Hill, and was a graduate of Church Hill High School. She lived in Whitesburg, TN, from 1961 until 1990, when she moved to Greeneville. Janice returned to the Church Hill area in 2005. She was a member of Brown Springs Baptist Church of Mosheim, where she was an active member in the Women's Missionary Union and Golden Circle Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Whitlock; a sister, Ilene Whitlock; and an aunt, Dovie Whitlock.
She is survived by her husband of 52½ years, G. K. Steadman, of Church Hill; two daughters, Mary Steadman, of Vero Beach, FL, and Janet Steiner and husband, Joe, of Murfreesboro, TN; three grandchildren, Jeremy Steadman, Rachel Steiner, and Bridgette Steiner; her mother, Ruth Byington Whitlock, Mt. Carmel, TN; two sisters, Betty Leeper, of Kingsport, and Velma Odle and husband, Dick, of Nickelsville, VA; a brother, Roy E. Whitlock and wife Sarah, of Huntington Woods, MI; and a devoted sister-in-law, Carrie Loudy-LaRoy, of Rogersville.
The family will receive friends at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00. Services will follow, with Rev. Richard Long, Rev. Harry Fleenor, and Dr. Larry Parrott officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Steadman, Roy Early, Kirk Loudy, Ricky Odle, Johnny Odle, Mike Steadman, and Barry Steadman. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Steadman, Danny Steadman, David Steadman, Matthew Odle, Adam Odle, Allen Davis, and George Steadman.
