Jared "Bubba" Elijah Cox, 7, of Kingsport, finally gained his wings Wednesday, November 19, 2014, in the arms of his mother, at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville. Jared was diagnosed with a rare brain disease when he was born and wasn't expected to leave the hospital. But because of his amazing strength, his family was blessed with 7 years with him. His smile was one of a kind and you never saw him without it.
Jared loved to listen to music and be outside in the sun. He loved to be held and listen to his little brother talk and laugh and to be tickled. Jared liked to listen to mamaw Ele sing to him and he shared his mamaw Kim's smile. He also loved to sing with the choir at church. Jared loved to lay on his daddy's chest while getting his ear rubbed.
He was preceded in death by several family members.
Jared is survived by his parents, Andrew Jerrod Cox and Heather Nicole Good of the home; brother, Jordan Cox; grandparents, Eleanor Good, Kimberly Minor and Sam Cox; aunts, Candice Cox "Aunt Sissy", Jaden Cox and Riley Cox; uncles, Donovan Cox "Uncle D" and wife, Whitney, Travis Good, Logan Davis and Carson Cox; great-grandparents, Betty Manis, Ralph and Debbie Housewright, Stanley and Peggy Minor and Sharon Cox; great-aunts and uncles, Mark and Gillian Housewright, Bill Housewright, Steven "P-Nut" and Janet Daniel; and many cousins and extended family.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff in PICU at East Tennessee Children's Hospital in Knoxville, and to all the previous caregivers from the past years.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 4-6:00 p.m. at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home of Kingsport. The service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Manis officiating.
Burial will be Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
